The Lowitja Institute International Indigenous Health and Wellbeing conference 2019 will be held in at the Darwin Convention Centre, Darwin, Australia, from the 18th-20th of June. The conference will be an Indigenous space built on First Nations knowledges and values.
It will be a space to connect Indigenous peoples, and non-Indigenous colleagues, and share the journey together.
Through the conference theme, the Institute invites an important discussion about the futures we want as Indigenous peoples and our contribution to the wellbeing of the planet.
Thinking, Speaking, Being
highlights the importance of language in enabling empowerment, cultural strength, wellbeing, and individual, family and community identity. It also reflects the international scope of the conference, its focus on solutions, and on benefits for communities on their terms
reminds delegates and presenters to consider the global implications of their work, to highlight the role of First Nations people in leading change, and to showcase Indigenous solutions
encourages ways of thinking and knowing in research, and ways of interacting and sharing knowledge including the role of language.
